Volunteering Opportunities ……. become an Honorary AgentIf you would like to help us then why not consider volunteering and become an Honorary Agent of the Society. If you would like to fundraise or act as a visitor/caseworker on our behalf then we would like to hear from you. FundraisingThis can be as much or as little as you want – it all helps. This could be placing collecting tins in local shops, offices or hotels and periodically counting and banking the contents or looking after one of our large WWII mines. We have one in Fleetwood and Tobermory that need looking after. Visitor / CaseworkerFrom time to time we seek new Agents to conduct visits and simple casework on our behalf and at the present we are looking for volunteers in Cardiff, Liverpool and Plymouth. While a maritime background is an advantage it is certainly not a requirement. The sort of person we are seeking is: approachable, confident, a good listener and perceptive, sympathetic and discreet. How does the process work:
If we are unable to help then through our experience we may know other organisations that can. We also review our existing regular beneficiaries' circumstances every three years. How much time does it take? This depends on the area and the time the time you have to spare – its up to you. Travel to visit beneficiaries is reimbursed at 40p per mile. A one day training session is provided. If you are interested then please contact Malcolm Williams, Chief Executive, or Graham Yarr, Grants Manager by phone on 01243 789 329 or e-mail general@shipwreckedmariners.org.uk We have quietly been making a difference to people’s quality of life for 170 years, why not join us.
